When you’re spending $135 on a passport, one of the things that you do not want to happen is for it to get stolen or for you to lose it. It can be a hassle to get a new one here in the U.S., not to mention all of the hoops you have to jump through if you lose your passport in a foreign country. Here are some tips about Passport Safety:
- COPY, COPY, COPY!!!!-Be sure to have copies of your passport hidden away. This will make things easier for you to get a new passport. Be sure that we have a copy of your passport and your parents do as well. This will make your life a lot easier and safer.
- Do not carry your passport around with you everywhere. Leave it in a safe place in your room when you are not planning on leaving your host country.
- Bring Other Forms of ID with You-The ISIC Card that you can buy (highly recommended by our office) will help you out tremendously. Besides getting discounts around the world, it serves as another form of identification.
- Know the Location of the Nearest Embassy-This is a key piece of information that will help you, not only if you lose your passport, but if you have any other form of emergency. If there is a disaster or something life-threatening, the embassy should be one of the first places that you go to.
